Destination Spatial

Kellee Ireland, general manager of SIBA, and Lyn Terrett, chair of Destination Spatial (Victoria), key advocates for the important role of the partnership between education and industry, are thrilled to announce the latest funding grants from the DEECD Strategic Partnerships Program.

The grants will enable the Geography Teachers Association of Victoria (GTAV) to further develop a GeogTech resource. GeogTech will be available as a free, online web-based resource comprising spatial technology activities directly related to the Australian Curriculum: Geography, across all year levels from Foundation to VCE. This will provide us with a new generation of spatially aware citizens. Initial funding for the resource was provided by proceeds from the data.vic competition.

Both Kellee and Lyn have been intrinsically involved in ensuring that spatial technology is a key priority in the new Geography curriculum, and these funds will facilitate the development of the resources to support it. The GTAV will also be providing professional learning programs for teachers.

The Strategic Partnerships Program has also provided funds to support the further engagement of students in rural and regional Victoria in the Newtech Program. To complete the trifecta, funding for an innovative program which increases awareness of the spatial industry and the diverse career opportunities it provides has also been secured. This program will target gifted and talented students.
