Western Australian surveying firm RM Surveys is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, having started off in 1995 as just a small group of surveyors.

Over those three decades, the company has grown and become involved a wide range of projects, from local subdivisions to major infrastructure and resource projects.

“Our success has always come from the incredible people who’ve shaped RM Surveys over the past 30 years,” said Peter Marcello, CEO of RM Surveys.

“From those who joined us at the very beginning to the graduates starting their careers today, every team member shares a passion for continual learning, precision and supporting one another. That shared commitment defines who we are.”

Some of the major projects RM Surveys has been involved with over the years include:

  • WA Maritime Museum: Precision construction surveying for concrete set-out, as-constructed surveys and mega-column steel erection; balancing heritage sensitivities and new architecture with disciplined control.
  • Optus Stadium: Coordinated BIM and traditional methodologies across a vast site, aligning more than 35 contractors into a single spatial masterplan to manage services and enable real-time decisions. This was recognised with the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Award (2018) for Spatial Enablement.
  • Elizabeth Quay Bridge and Matagarup Bridge: From dimensional control of prefabricated steel at Civmec’s Henderson facility to on-site assembly in Perth, the company applied high-accuracy workflows to ensure components met design within tight tolerances.
  • Narrows Bridge Duplication: Multi-year involvement in waterfront infrastructure redevelopment, demonstrating continuity of data and method across long programs.
  • Fiona Stanley Hospital: Construction and engineering set-out and validation in a highly regulated environment, aligning structural and services packages.

According to Marcello, the RM Survey’s expansion is reflected in its revenue growth, exceeding 30% in FY2024–25.

The company’s General Manager of Business Development, Bjorn Bernhardt, says it’s all about investing in developing new talent.

“This milestone isn’t just about longevity,” he said. “It’s about growth — of people, capability, and trust. Every project we take on contributes to Australia’s future, and we’re proud of the part we play in shaping it.”
