The Western Australia recipients of the 2023 Geospatial Excellence Awards were announced on 15 November at the Geospatial Council of Australia’s South Australia Geospatial Conference and Awards Dinner.
The Awards, formerly the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards, are presented on a state/territory basis, with the winners going into the running for the prestigious annual Oceanic awards.
This year’s Western Australia recipients are:
- International Partnership Award: CSIRO, Geoscience Australia, FrontierSI and Symbios Communications for Earth Observation for Climate Smart Innovation.
- Technical Excellence Award: McMullen Nolan Group for the Geographe Bay Coastal Survey.
- Workforce Development and Inclusion Award: McMullen Nolan Group for Workforce at MNG.
- Postgraduate Student Award: Amir Allahvirdi-Zadeh.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Lavender Liu.
- Future Leader of the Year: Lavender Liu.
All these winners — along with those recently announced from Victoria, NSW and Tasmania, Queensland and South Australia — are now in the running for the prestigious Oceanic competition, as will be the awardees from the Australian Capital Territory.
The Oceanic winners will be announced at the Locate Conference in Sydney in May 2024.
