SIBA has conducted its annual board elections over the past month to fill the three vacant positions that arose out of the yearly rotation. There were four outstanding nominations for the board this year.

Glenn Cockerton from Spatial Vision was re-elected to the board for his second three-year term. Joining him will be newcomers Julia Spark from Aerometrex in Western Australia, and Glenn Frankish from Lockheed Martin in Victoria.

The directors also re-elected the chairman, former Howard Government Minister the Hon. Gary Nairn, to a second one-year term, and Maurits van der Vlugt from Mercury Solutions as the Deputy Chairman. Glenn Cockerton continues as the Treasurer.

“The election of Julia and Glenn to the SIBA board is a great result, as both [of them] represent the growing influence of contemporary aspects of the spatial industries,” said Gary Nairn.

“SIBA’s board represents the diversity that is the spatial industries. Directors have expertise in surveying, mapping, GIS, economics, environment, property, large and small business, employment, engineering, consulting and remote sensing and now defence is added,” he explained.

The new Directors took up their positions at the conclusion of the SIBA Annual General Meeting, which was held in Perth on the 7th November 2013 coinciding with the WALIS Forum.

“The coming year is shaping up to be an exciting one for our industries’ members, as the ubiquitous nature of spatial information opens up new opportunities in previously unexplored applications. 2014 will also see the first national conference of our industries, Locate 14, to be held in Canberra in April,” Gary Nairn concluded.
