The International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) has released its preliminary program for the 2016 FIG Working Week in Christchurch and is inviting geomatics professionals to attend and present at the event, which will be held in Christchurch, New Zealand, 2-6 May 2016. The structure of the program has been completed and a call for papers beginning in the end of July will be open for both peer review papers and non-peer review papers.
The technical programme will include a broad professional and scientific programme, during 3 consecutive days offering up to 10 parallel sessions and workshops. This will allow more than 400 presentations across every area of the surveying profession. The carefully prepared Technical Programme will offer both specially invited high-profile presentations and papers that are selected through the open call for papers procedure.
The Working Week is hosted by FIG and the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors (NZIS) as the local host. The FIG Working Week 2016 has wide support throughout New Zealand with a commitment already pledged by Christchurch City Council and Land Information New Zealand, which is New Zealand’s government department responsible for land titles, geodetic and cadastral survey systems and topographic information.
The academic community and private practitioners are also committed to the FIG Working Week 2016. The conference expects to attract between 700 and 900 local and international delegates, with around 90 to 100 countries normally represented at a FIG Working Week.
The overall theme of the Working Week is ‘Recovery from Disaster’, a response to the 201, Christchurch earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter scale and shocked the population of the province of Canterbury.
The organisers invite geomatics professionals to submit abstracts for peer review paper by 1 October 2015 and abstracts for non-peer-review paper by 15 November. The submissions will open at the end of July.
