The Open-Source GIS community has a powerful new addition in its software arsenal, following the launch of the new QGIS WCPS Plugin, which enables seamless querying and visualisation of multidimensional datacubes.

The plugin integrates the OGC Web Coverage Processing Service (WCPS) standard, enabling users to perform complex spatial and temporal analytics without the need for extensive coding.

WCPS means users can efficiently query large-scale raster datasets and visualise results directly in QGIS.

The plugin’s key features are:

  • WCPS queries can be executed effortlessly within QGIS for easy datacube analytics.
  • It is OGC standards-based, leveraging the WCPS standard for geospatial analysis.
  • Advanced spatial and temporal analytics can be performed without programming expertise.
  • Query results can be viewed and interacted with instantly in QGIS.

A tutorial and comprehensive cheat sheet are available.

The plugin marks a significant step forward in expanding QGIS’s capabilities for large-scale geospatial data analysis, empowering researchers, analysts and GIS professionals worldwide.
