The Space Symposium attracts thousands of representatives of the space industry, governments, militaries, research agencies and more. The event brings all these groups together in one place to provide an opportunity to examine space issues from multiple perspectives, to promote dialog and to focus attention on critical space issues.
This year, the Space Symposium will be a hybrid in-person/virtual event, with the in-person sessions taking place in Boulder, Colorado, along with a vast exhibition display space which, this year, has been increased by 8,300 square metres.
Supported by the Australian Space Agency, the South Australian Space Industry Centre and SmartSat CRC, the 12th Australian Space Forum will provide an opportunity to stimulate ideas, share information about emerging technologies and network with space sector leaders and the broader community.
Participants will be able to attend in-person at the Adelaide Convention Centre in South Australia, or virtually through the event’s global interactive platform.
Forum sessions will include international panels covering the following thematic areas:
- National and international space trends
- Moving from cubesats to larger satellites — building Australian expertise and capability
- Reimagining the social, environmental and economic opportunities enabled by Earth observation technologies
- On-Earth and off-Earth remote operations, in the context of human exploration as well as applications right here on Earth
The Space & Geospatial Collaborative Workshop will be jointly hosted by the Andy Thomas Space Foundation and the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute in Adelaide the day following the 12th Australian Space Forum and the day before Spatial Information Day.
This inter-disciplinary workshop will provide a unique opportunity for professionals from both space and spatial sectors to:
- Learn about Australia’s renewed commitment to space technology development
- Get updates on the requirements and capabilities of the modern spatial information industry using applications such as PNT (positioning, navigation and timing), EO (Earth Observation) and telecommunications
- Connect and discuss the increasing synergy and collaborative opportunities between the two sectors.

The National Surveying Congress will be an opportunity for leaders in the surveying profession to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the profession. The 2022 Congress theme is ‘Automatic Mutual Relaxation’.
As the profession comes to understand the impact of Automatic Mutual Recognition for surveyors across the country, the event will provide an opportunity for surveyors from across Australia to gather and discuss the issues facing the profession and the opportunities for the future. The highlight of the program each year is the Cadastral Leaders Panel which sees all the Surveyors-General on stage speaking about changes and opportunities in their states and territories as well as an update from ICSM and ANZLIC. There will also be an online option.
The National Surveying Consultancy Excellence Awards and Gala Dinner will be held on the second day of the event, 23 June 2022.
The Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) will convene the second United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress (UNWGIC) in Hyderabad, India from 10-14 October 2022.
Hosted by the Government of India through its Ministry of Science and Technology, the convening of the UNWGIC arises out of the mandate from the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to the Committee of Experts to convene global forums to promote comprehensive dialogue on global geospatial information management with all relevant governments, international organisations and stakeholders.
With an overarching theme ‘Geo-Enabling the Global Village: No one should be left behind,’ the second UNWGIC will reflect the importance of integrated geospatial information to support sustainable development and the wellbeing of society, address environmental and climate challenges, embrace digital transformation and technological development, and catalyse vibrant economies.
The congress addresses the development and strengthening of integrated geospatial information management, its capacities and capabilities, and demonstrates the importance of international cooperation and coordination for building a human data and geography community, against the three pillars of sustainable development, for a shared future and a better world, leaving no one behind within an inclusive and equitable global society.
The UNWGIC will feature a high-level, plenary, special and parallel sessions. While the actual second UNWGIC program covers three days (11 – 13 October), the overall event will be a weeklong (10 – 14 October), and will include global and regional meetings, workshops and learning events, expert meetings and side events, including the eleventh plenary meeting of the Regional Committee of United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP), as well as the annual meeting of the UN-GGIM Expanded Bureau.

The 2023 ACT Geospatial Conference and Excellence Awards will bring together colleagues old and new to hear the latest updates from across the local geospatial industry.
The call for abstracts for the event is now open. Any topic of interest to the geospatial industry is welcome, including surveying (cadastral, engineering, hydrographic, mining), GIS, remote sensing and geodesy, or broader topics such as new technology, diversity and workforce management.
The deadline for submission of abstract proposals closes at midday on Tuesday, 3 October.
The Geospatial Excellence Awards Reception will be held at the conclusion of the conference sessions, giving attendees the chance to enjoy drinks and canapes whilst networking and celebrating the award winners.

The IGNSS Association’s biennial international GNSS conference will return to UNSW Sydney from 7 to 9 February, 2024, where it will celebrate the first half-century of GNSS and look ahead to the next 50 years.
IGNSS 2024 will bring together experts, policy makers and emerging leaders from across the globe to examine the latest advances, present cutting edge research and discuss policy, market development and infrastructure.

Each year, the Locate conference attracts hundreds of national and international delegates from within and outside the spatial, space and surveying sectors.
As Australia’s premier spatial and surveying conference, Locate provides guests with a unique opportunity to learn about the latest trends and applications in geospatial technologies.
The 2024 event will be held at the International Convention Centre at Darling Harbour in Sydney, and will include a gala evening dinner and presentation of the Geospatial Excellence Awards (formerly the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards).
