ANZLIC, the Australian and New Zealand spatial information council, has provided an update on its activities.

Acknowledging that it had not provided any updates since its meetings in 2023, and promising to start the information flowing once again, the Council said that over the past couple of years it has “continued to strengthen its national leadership role in geospatial information…”

In particular, it pointed to its “sustained focus on strategic direction, collaboration across jurisdictions, and engagement with the broader geospatial sector”.

“Discussions and activities over this period have highlighted the growing importance of geospatial data in addressing national priorities, including infrastructure delivery, housing, emergency management, resilience and economic productivity,” the Council update said.

“Jurisdictions have shared progress on major spatial system modernisation initiatives, including digital cadastre, digital twin and spatial data reforms, alongside ongoing work to uplift geospatial capability across governments.”

ANZLIC also said it has been focusing on national coordination and standards, with continued engagement through the Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping and participation in international fora such as the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management community.

“These efforts have supported alignment on geodesy, naming, standards and best practice, and reinforced Australia’s contribution to regional and global geospatial initiatives,” it said.

Since 2023, ANZLIC has also been working on its future strategic direction and pondering how to boost its profile and engagement with the public sector, private industry and the wider spatial community.
