The Virtual Australia & New Zealand Initiative (VANZI) Conference 2013 will be held on 13th & 14th of May, at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney.

Integration of 3D GIS Point Cloud and 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) provides the opportunity to progressively build a complete ‘Federated’ 3D model of the natural and built environment (inside and out, above and below ground) – to provide a new virtual infrastructure for use by everyone in the ‘property cycle’.

The big issues are: privacy and security and rights of access to the inside of each building model.

This timely conference focuses on the challenges and opportunities that this new ‘infrastructure’ brings from a whole of government and industry approach. Over 30 senior-level speakers are on the program, representing: federal (Aust. & NZ), state, and local governments; researchers; big property owners (both government and private); insurers and utilities; professionals across the architectural, engineering and construction sectors, including spatial and Building Information Modelling (BIM) experts; and, importantly, the law.

These speakers include:

  • Dr Tim Williams, CEO, Committee for Sydney
  • Helen Owens, General Manager Office of Spatial Policy, Department of Resources, Energy & Tourism
  • David Hassett, Team Leader GIS, City of Melbourne
  • Prof Abbas Rajabifard, Director of CSDILA at University of Melbourne
  • Wayne Eastley, Manager Asset Sustainability, Department of Health & Human Services, Tas
  • Richard Simpson, Chief Executive Officer, SIBA
  • John Hudson, Director, Sustainable Systems, NSW Department of Planning & Infrastructure
  • Matthew Giesemann, General Manager Engineering, City West Water
  • John Moore, Manager GIS and Operations, Land & Property Information Authority, Dpt. of Finance & Services NSW

  • Dr Philip Collier, Research Director, CRC for Spatial Information
