Berlin-based UP42 has announced two new partnerships, increasing capability in maritime surveillance and precision agriculture applications.

Geospatial software developer platform and data provider UP42 has announced the addition of exactEarth’s ship tracking data products to its cloud-based Earth observation marketplace.

CEO Sean Wiid said that the development could give users the ability to build complex maritime applications by combining the exactEarth products with other geospatial data products available on the platform.

“We created UP42 to democratise access to Earth observation data so that anyone can extract valuable insights to solve global or local challenges. The platform provides our users all the tools they need to develop geospatial workflows, applications and even commercial products,” he said.

exactEarth’s satelite-derived AIS data sets include real-time commercial passenger and cargo vessel locations, headings, routes, destinations, and arrival times, as well as historical archives of this information dating back a decade.

UP42 also announced a partnership with Sweden-based Vultus AB, which develops customised AI algorithms for agricultural insights from Earth observation data.

Under the agreement, UP42 customers can access Vultus’ fertilisation zoning maps to tune crop management, with more products available in future, according to the company.

“Farming has always been a tough business, with high costs and low margins,” said Robert Schmitt, Vultus CEO.

“This exciting partnership with UP42 means we can give growers new possibilities to use the latest research and satellite data to easily reduce their nitrogen fertilisers and increase their yields.”
