SSSI NSW Event: GIS in Engineering

By on 30 August, 2011

The aim of the day is to share information on the application of Geographic Information Systems and Spatial data and skills in Engineering Projects.

You will see demonstrations of best practice and innovation regarding GIS, and learn about the potential benefits GIS and spatial data has when integrated into Engineering projects, such as asset management, near-surface mapping, surface and 3D models and
using maps and imagery in the presentation of projects.

The Forum will enable you to identify relevant information and players, from which you can build better networks and future partnerships.

Who Should Attend:
Engineering and spatial professionals, representatives from Commonwealth, State and Local Government, private consulting companies.

Workshop Outline:
  • What is GIS and how it integrates an engineering project:
Overview of GIS and spatial data potential. Learn how to integrate the data and GIS, and imagery data and technology, to the benefit of an engineering project; and about management issues and solutions.
  • Near surface mapping and radar:
Near surface radar is a recent technology for scanning for near-surface assets. Learn about the International Standards and future Australian standards, and how to apply this data into your work.
  • Imagery and LiDAR:
Learn how different projects have integrated Imagery and LiDAR data into their projects. See demonstrations of how this data is analysed and modelled.
  • Asset Management:
Where is that asset? GIS is all about storing and utilising location related data. It is important for asset management. Learn how GIS has been used for asset management by various organisations.
