ISPRS Awards

During the congress, there were a number of awards given to various people and organisations for their contribution to the fields of photogrammetry and remote sensing.
 
Honorary Membership was awarded to: Ian Dowman, UK; and Deren Li, China; in recognition of their distinguished services to the ISPRS and its aims.
 
Fellowships were awarded to: Dieter Fritsch, Germany; Martin Molenaar, The Netherlands; Paul Newby, UK; Heinz Reuther, Republic of South Africa; and Shailesh Nayak, India; in recognition of their sustained, excellent service to the ISPRS and its aims.
 
The Brock Gold Medal Award was awarded to Franz Leberl, Austria, for an outstanding landmark contribution in the evolution of the photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences.
 
The Frederick J Doyle Award was awarded to Christian Heipke, Germany, for his significant accomplishments in advancing the photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences and technologies.
 
The Otto von Gruber Award was awarded to Jan-Henrik Haunert, Germany, for authoring a paper of outstanding merit in the photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences over the 4 years prior to the Congress.
 
The U.V. Helava Award, awarded for the most outstanding paper published exclusively in the ISPRS International Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, was awarded to Konrad Schindler, Andreas Ess, Bastian Leibe, and Luc Van Gool for their paper "Automatic detection and tracking of pedestrians from a moving stereo rig."
 
The Wang Zhizhou Award was awarded to Wenzhong Shi, Hong Kong, for a significant achievement or innovation in the spatial information sciences.
 
The Karl Kraus Medal, awarded to authors of excellent textbooks in the fields of Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, and Spatial Information Sciences, was awarded to George Vosselman & Hans-Gerd Maas for their Text-Book "Airborne and Terrestrial Laser Scanning"
 
The Giuseppe Inghilleri Award was awarded to Yun Zhang, Canada, for significant enhancement of the applications of photogrammetry, remote sensing or spatial information sciences.
 
The Eduard Dolezal Award, created to assist individuals or representatives of institutions from developing or reform countries who have permanently implemented a practical application of photogrammetry, remote sensing or GIS to participate in the ISPRS Congress, was awarded to George Sithole, Zimbabwe.
 
The Schwidefsky Medal was awarded to George Vosselman, The Netherlands, for a significant contribution to photogrammetry and remote sensing, either through the medium of publication as author or editor, or in another form.
 
The Willem Schermerhorn Award, awarded to a person who has most significantly contributed to the activities of a Working Group of the ISPRS during the four year Congress period, was awarded to Cemal Özgür Kıvılcım, Turkey.
 
The Samuel Gamble Award, awarded for a significant contribution to the development, organization or professional activities of the photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences, at the national or international level, was awarded to Kohei Cho, Japan.
 
President’s Citations, awarded to recognise special, personal and meritorious contributions to the operation of the relevant Technical Commission's activities and advancement of its interests, were awarded to:

TC III: Franz Rottensteiner
TC IV: Jie Jiang
TC V: Fabio Remondino
TC VI: Manos Baltsavias
TC VII: Uwe Sörgel
TC VIII: Amelia Budge
