Hexagon boosts 3D portfolio with Melown acquisition

By on 10 July, 2019

Hexagon’s Leica Geosystems division has acquired Prague-based technology company Melown Technologies from Ivo Lukačovič´s investment company Helifreak Limited.

With this acquisition, Hexagon will strengthen its portfolio through Melown’s four core products. These are:

  • Melown Photogrammetry: A 3D mapping service that creates high-resolution 3D digital models natural and urban landscapes, for GIS, CAD, and web-based VR.
  • Vadstena: tool for creating geometric 3D models, orthoimagery, DEMs and land cover maps in a unified process, able to handle a diverse types of input data, including UAV-based close-range imagery and datasets from oblique camera systems.
  • VTS-geospatial: a fully integrated rendering and visualisation stack.
  • Melown Cloud: A web-based 3D map application development platform that sits above Melown’s VTS 3D geospatial software stack, facilitating creation of interactive 3D maps in a point-and-click interface, allowing users to integrate their datasets with a collection of open datasets made available by Melown.

Juergen Dold, President of Hexagon’s Geosystems division, said, “We are very excited that Melown Technologies is joining our organisation as it strengthens our competence and technology portfolio to accelerate the accessibility of 3D digital realities that are captured with our broad portfolio of reality capture solutions.”

It will be interesting to see how these capabilities filter down into Hexagon’s future offerings.

Hexagon and Leica products are distributed through CR Kennedy in Australia.
