The International Federation of Surveyors’ (FIG) Commission 7 (Cadastre and Land Management) held its global 2021 Annual Meeting on 23 September.

The event — Mapping the Future of Land Administration — was held in conjunction with the 20-year anniversary celebration for the University of Melbourne’s Centre for SDIs and Land Administration.

This was the second year in which the event had to take place online, due to the COVID pandemic.

Around 70 participants logged in from around the world to receive updates from the Commission on global developments in land administration.

A number of experts made presentations, including:

• Dr Eugene Chigbu, who spoke about the Urban-Rural Linkages – Guiding Principles report from UN-Habitat.
• Dr Eva-Maria Unger who, along with Kees de Zeeuw, Chair of the Expert Group and Land Administration and Management, UN-GGIM (and Director Kadaster International, Netherlands), provided an update on developments with the UN-GGIM Framework for Effective Land Administration (FELA), including new translations into a range of languages.
• Professor Peter van Oosterom outlined ISO 19152 LADM Edition 2 initiatives, the 3D Cadastre Working Group and the upcoming 16th 3D-GeoInfo Conference.
• Professor Stig Enemark, together with Professor Robin McLaren and Professor Lemmen, gave an overview of the recently completed Special Issue on ‘Fit for Purpose Land Administration’ published in the international journal, Land. Comprising two volumes and around 30 papers, the Special Issue is a good reference for those working on developing land administration systems.

At the most recent FIG General Assembly, Rohan Bennett (Australia/Netherlands) was appointed Chair Elect of Commission 7, the term for which will be initiated at the FIG Congress 2022 for the period 2023–26.
