Entries are now open for the Carl Pulfrich Award for photogrammetry, to be presented during the Photogrammetry Week (PhoWo) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, 7-11 September 2015.

The biennial award and donation honours the memory of Dr Carl Pulfrich, a member of the scientific staff at Carl Zeiss from 1890 to 1927, during which time he directed the design of the first stereo photogrammetric and surveying instruments from Zeiss. The award was established to promote outstanding scientific, application oriented design and/or manufacturing activities in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing, including earth imaging applications.

The Carl Pulfrich Award Council will consider nominees on the basis of experience and activities in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing, and contributions to the advancement of all aspects of the earth imaging field. Applied work involving hardware systems, software solutions, or innovative service activities will be considered as well.

Criteria for selection of the Carl Pulfrich Award shall not be based upon publications and theoretical research alone but shall also reward the practical implementation of ideas.

Professionals involved with photogrammetry, remote sensing, and earth imaging may nominate candidates, including themselves, for the Carl Pulfrich Award. The award recipient will receive a monetary gift of US$7,500 or an amount deemed suitable by the award committee.

The Award Ceremony 2015 will be held at the 55th Photogrammetric Week (PhoWo) to be held in Stuttgart, Germany, 7-11 September 2015.

The PhoWo lectures will be presented in English by experts from Germany and abroad, and will focus on the following topics:

  • Remotely Sensed Data Acquisition – An Update
  • Advanced Modelling in Photogrammetry, Computer Vision and Computer Graphics
  • Excellence in Geoinformatics

Further details of the Award and the PhoWo program are available at the University of Stuttgart’s Institute for Photogrammetry website.
