Unable to hold its scheduled 2021 NSW Regional Conference earlier in 2022, SSSI is now inviting the spatial community to join it for a special online seminar featuring some of the speakers from the original program, along with the announcement of the NSW winners of the 2021 Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards.
This seminar will focus on the importance, efficiency and innovation spatial data can provide in crisis management situations and will feature presentations on:
- Finding your Friendship Island amongst a sea of COVID restrictions — presented by Stella Blake-Kelly, Founder/Director, Cartisan
- Geospatial Intelligence: Providing real-time insights supporting NSW State Emergency Service’s emergency management response — presented by Melissa Daley, Manager, Geospatial Intelligence Systems, NSW State Emergency Service

Survey and Spatial NZ’s 2022 conference will be held from 1 to 3 August at the Novotel Lakeside, Rotorua. The conference is the biggest continuing professional development event of the year for NZ surveying and spatial professionals. It invites sharing of knowledge amongst peers, bringing together networking opportunities for all delegates and is an essential event for professional development and connectivity within the sector.
The choice of Rotorua as the location is apt, given the conference theme of ‘Turning up the Heat’. The organisers aim to stimulate discussion regarding challenges in regional areas, which include climate change and developments outside of Auckland.
The 2022 Tasmania Surveying & Spatial Conference will be held on Friday, 2 September at Wrest Point in Hobart, and promises to be a fantastic opportunity to learn and network with SSSI members and the broader surveying and spatial community.
This year’s event will include a gala dinner, held in partnership with the University of Tasmania, to celebrate that institution’s 50 years in the field of surveying and spatial teaching.
In addition, the event will include the presentation of the 2022 Tasmanian Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards.

Smart Cities Week Australia and New Zealand 2022 will bring together the who’s-who in smart cities, digital twins and future-of-place thought leadership in an energising, open dialogue on how to leverage technology to deliver better quality of life for citizens.
Smart Cities Week offers sessions designed to bring demand and supply side stakeholders together in a way that incubates business opportunities and incubates the smart cities investment pipeline.
This year, the event will be delivered in conjunction with Digital Twin Week, known as the premier platform for showcasing, exchanging and networking around all things Digital Twin in the built and natural environment. The event will offer a series of opportunities to connect and gain information and insights on Digital Twin activity, policy and practice from government and industry leaders.
Leading the line-up for the 2022 event is Platinum event sponsor, Amazon Web Services, who will offer attendees a look at AWS-powered twin cities, and how towns, regions and cities, can use cloud benefits, technology and support, to realise their local planning vision.

The 2022 SSSI Queensland Regional Conference will be held on Friday, 14 October at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. It promises to once again be a fantastic opportunity to learn and connect with SSSI members and the broader surveying and spatial community.
The Queensland Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards dinner will also be held in conjunction with the conference, celebrating the outstanding work being undertaken across the region.

Presented by the Space Industry Association of Australia, the Southern Space Symposium brings together space industry experts and decision-makers from across Australia.
This year’s Symposium will connect the space industry together with government and parliament for two days to help shape the future agenda of Australian space’s aspirations.
Participants will include federal government departments and agencies, international agencies and missions, defence and space prime contractors, listed space companies, academic and research organisations, small and medium enterprises, space start-ups and individual space professionals.
The Local Government Spatial Reference Group (LGSRG) will be holding a webinar on Monday, 4 September, to introduce a series of hands-on workshops it will be holding across Victoria during September 2023.
The webinar will cover the topic of Best Practice Geospatial Intelligence for Climate Impact, and will address important topics on climate impact, community safety and how geospatial intelligence can contribute to better outcomes for local governments.
The LGSRG was formed in 2003 to address the need for a sector wide group representing the strategic interests of the Victorian Local Government sector with respect to spatial information. The LGSRG has been active throughout the COVID pandemic to keep the local government geospatial community connected and engaged via the annual Spatial Capability Workshop series which have grown year on year, and is now diversifying with a quarterly Spatial Hour webinar to share stories of success within the local government geospatial sector.

Hosted by the Riverina Eastern Regional Organisation of Councils and the Riverina Spatial Information Group, Mapped Out 2023 will bring together public- and private-sector professionals to learn about the latest geospatial developments.
Mapped Out will highlight the diversity of applications for spatial data, geographic information systems and their supporting technologies. Guest speakers with local and national experience will be showcasing the use of spatial data to enhance the operation and delivery of government services.
The Conference is a great opportunity for people working in regional NSW in both local government and the private sector to keep abreast of the latest technology and geographical information systems that can be utilised in their day-to-day work.
The Geospatial Council of Australia’s Western Australia Digital Twin Summit will be held on 15 November 2023.
The event will focus on Spatial Digital Twins, and attendees will hear the latest developments in this rapidly developing space from government, academia and private industry presenters.
The WA Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards dinner will also be held in conjunction with the conference, celebrating the outstanding work being undertaken across the region.

The 3rd International Land Management Conference, hosted by the University of the West of England, will be held online on 14 and 15 March 2024. The event will bring together experts and professionals in land management to discuss inclusive land tenure, efficient land markets, sector reform and innovations in land research.
The conference will focus on four themes:
- Theme 1: Can we build more inclusive and resilient land tenure systems by understanding social value and climate change?
- Theme 2: How can land administration systems contribute to efficient and equitable land markets?
- Theme 3: What approaches can Development Partners use to help achieve more successful Land Administration sector reform?
- Theme 4: LINK – Early Career Professionals and Junior Researchers – Innovations in Land Research and Practice
The conference is organised by LINK, the Land–International Network for Knowledge — a network of academic organisations, professional practice and development partners, as well as public and private sector country partners — in association with the University of the West of England.
