The Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) will convene the second United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress (UNWGIC) in Hyderabad, India from 10-14 October 2022.
Hosted by the Government of India through its Ministry of Science and Technology, the convening of the UNWGIC arises out of the mandate from the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to the Committee of Experts to convene global forums to promote comprehensive dialogue on global geospatial information management with all relevant governments, international organisations and stakeholders.
With an overarching theme ‘Geo-Enabling the Global Village: No one should be left behind,’ the second UNWGIC will reflect the importance of integrated geospatial information to support sustainable development and the wellbeing of society, address environmental and climate challenges, embrace digital transformation and technological development, and catalyse vibrant economies.
The congress addresses the development and strengthening of integrated geospatial information management, its capacities and capabilities, and demonstrates the importance of international cooperation and coordination for building a human data and geography community, against the three pillars of sustainable development, for a shared future and a better world, leaving no one behind within an inclusive and equitable global society.
The UNWGIC will feature a high-level, plenary, special and parallel sessions. While the actual second UNWGIC program covers three days (11 – 13 October), the overall event will be a weeklong (10 – 14 October), and will include global and regional meetings, workshops and learning events, expert meetings and side events, including the eleventh plenary meeting of the Regional Committee of United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP), as well as the annual meeting of the UN-GGIM Expanded Bureau.

Foundation Services Rover: Exploring remote operations and autonomous systems by building on Australian expertise in the resources and mining sectors for the collection of lunar soil (regolith).
Presented by the Space Industry Association of Australia, the Southern Space Symposium brings together space industry experts and decision-makers from across Australia.
This year’s Symposium will connect the space industry together with government and parliament for two days to help shape the future agenda of Australian space’s aspirations.
Participants will include federal government departments and agencies, international agencies and missions, defence and space prime contractors, listed space companies, academic and research organisations, small and medium enterprises, space start-ups and individual space professionals.
The Andy Thomas Space Foundation is looking forward to welcoming a global audience to the 15th edition of the Australian Space Forum, which will be held on Tuesday, 9 May 2023 at the Adelaide Convention Centre in South Australia.

The Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors (AIMS) National Conference 2023 will be held at the Hyatt Regency Sydney from 13 to 15 September 2023. This is the premier event on the AIMS calendar and should not be missed, especially with more than 20 sponsors in attendance showcasing the latest equipment and technology.
The conference’s keynote speaker will be Peter Baines, OAM, one of Australia’s most effective ‘socialprenuers’. A former police officer, he is the founder of the well-known charity ‘Hands Across the Water,’ and as such has created opportunities for hundreds of children in Thailand.
Peter’s humanitarian efforts have been recognised with significant national and international awards. In January 2014, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his International Humanitarian work. In 2016, he received the Most Admirable Order of Direkgunabhorn awarded by the King of Thailand for his devotional services to the Kingdom of Thailand.
A powerful keynote speaker, Peter’s presentations take his audience from laughter to tears as he recounts his story and delivers the lessons he has learned by managing some of the world’s most devastating crises. His tales of the way in which he has contributed to the lives of many less fortunate people in the world, and the realisation of his personal dream are absolutely inspiring.
SmartSat partners, participants, students and staff are invited to come together to share their research outcomes and network with industry colleagues at the SmartSat CRC Conference 2023.
The SmartSat CRC is a consortium of universities and other research organisations, partnered with industry that has been funded by the Australian Government to develop know-how and technologies in advanced telecommunications and IoT connectivity, intelligent satellite systems and Earth observation next generation data services.

The Space Industry Association of Australia’s (SIAA) Southern Space conference returns to Canberra in 2023, following the highly successful 2022 event.
The SIAA is the national peak body for the space industry in Australia, representing more than 600 members. Formed in 1992, SIAA hosted the 2017 International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide which led to the establishment of the Australian Space Agency in 2018.
SIAA and its member companies work closely with Australian governments, international partners, academia, and industry to advance Australia’s space industry and economy.
The Indo-Pacific Space & Earth Conference will delve into technologies that can be applied both on Earth and in space — from AI and robotics to remote operations. All industries from mining, oil and gas, agriculture, medicine and more can benefit from investing resources into these technologies.
Supported by key industry players and the government, the goal of the conference is to bring everyone together to discover new innovations and capabilities to create future opportunities.

The Andy Thomas Space Foundation is looking forward to welcoming a global audience to the 16th edition of the Australian Space Forum, to be held in Sydney on 6 December 2023.
This will be the first time the Forum will have been held in a city other than Adelaide; the organisers announced at the 15th Forum in May 2023 that from then on, every second Forum will be held in a city other than Adelaide.
The Forum provides an ideal opportunity to stimulate ideas, share information about emerging technologies and network with influential space sector leaders and the broader community.
The IGNSS Association’s biennial international GNSS conference will return to UNSW Sydney from 7 to 9 February, 2024, where it will celebrate the first half-century of GNSS and look ahead to the next 50 years.
IGNSS 2024 will bring together experts, policy makers and emerging leaders from across the globe to examine the latest advances, present cutting edge research and discuss policy, market development and infrastructure.
The conference will also showcase Australia and New Zealand’s Southern Positioning Augmentation Network (SouthPAN), along with developments by other countries across the Asia-Pacific.
