Automation Technologies claims its new sensor can improve temperature detection accuracy of infrared camera systems to within +/- 0.3 degrees.

The newly-launched Smart Blackbody IRS Calilux is a device to increase the accuracy of IR camera systems for non-contact temperature measurement.

It operates by providing a precise reference temperature value to correct the measured values of the cameras, capable of achieving +/-0.3 degrees’ accuracy, according to Automation Technologies.

‘This recent development is the perfect complement for infrared cameras, enabling them to increase temperature measurement accuracy to the limits of what is technically achievable and ensure fail-safe operation,’ the firm wrote in an announcement of the sensor’s launch.

Its accuracy is not affected by ambient temperatures or drafts, and the IRS Calilux can provide current temperature and humidity values. Its applications include thermal monitoring of industrial plant, early fire detection and non-contact body temperature scanning.

The device has integrated IoT protocols such as Fieldbus, REST-API and MQTT, can be connected by Ethernet or Wifi, and is available in a version that can check calibration of IR cameras.
