SSSI NSW/ACT conference to analyse spatial’s role in digital economy

The Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute NSW has unveiled the program for their regional conference, to be held on December 6-7 in Bathurst.

The SSSI’s NSW and ACT branches are co-hosting the two-day conference, which will also incorporate the 2017 Individual Spatial Excellence Awards presentation.

Selected highlights from the program include:

Dr. Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse, Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information (CRCSI)

The 2026 Spatial Industry Transformation and Growth Agenda (2026 Agenda) is a whole-of-sector initiative of business, government, research, academia and spatial-user organisations that has engaged more than 500 individuals to jointly create a rolling roadmap and Action Plan that identifies 34 coordinated transformative initiatives that aims to transform the Australian spatial sector, and accelerate the growth of traditional and emerging markets through the power of location technologies.

Dr Michael Whelan, Southern Cross University

To improve the content, learning outcomes and assessment of three spatial science subjects delivered in environmental degrees, the teaching team at Southern Cross University collaborated with industry partners. This presentation will outline the process undertaken.

Mike Stapleton, LANDdata Surveys

This presentation will look at property, property boundaries and the measurement thereof, and its relation to the digital economy. It will then correlate this with modern measurement and presentation technologies and their possible application to measuring property boundaries and title data presentation.

Greg Ledwidge, EPSDD ACT

This presentation looks at the history of the ACT-NSW border survey including, the Mouat Tree project, the re-survey that followed the 2003 fires and how the border may evolve in the future. More importantly the presentation examines why we should celebrate the efforts of past surveyors and why the border may be changed.

Dr Dipak Dudyal, University of Queensland; ESRI Australia

This presentation will provide insights into developments in the application of remote sensing technology in agriculture, and will look at aspects of what these changes will mean for Australian farmers, the agribusiness sector and policy-makers.

Mary-Ellen Feeney, Jacobs

A new approach to contaminated land risk review using historical imagery and web GIS applications. Case study: Sydney Water.

Joe Dantas, PBA

Data is the new beacon – How location intelligence and data is powering the digital economy. This presentation will be focused on real case studies where businesses are realizing the value of location intelligence & data for business outcomes.
