Trimble launches mobile GIS developer community

By on 18 January, 2011

Trimble has this week launched a mobile GIS developer community, hosted within the Trimble Connected Community (TCC) portal.

The site provides a selection of developer tools and services, and an online community provides members with access to software tools and services as well as documentation, a developer forum, knowledge base and support resources.

It includes software development kits for members such as a GPS toolkit designed for rapid development of standalone GPS-enabled applications and a tool to allow developers to create ArcGIS mobile applications with GNSS post-processing capability.

Chris Rose, global sales director for Trimble’s mapping & GIS division, said the community encourages interoperability.

“The mobile GIS developer community allows our customers and partners to leverage Trimble’s positioning solutions within their application environment,” he said.

“Over time, Trimble plans to grow the community with additional developer-centric tools and services.”

Members of the mobile GIS developer community pay an annual fee covering software maintenance and developer support, and also pay license fees when they deploy applications to their customers.

Esri operates a similar community, and there is a number of other vendor-independent communities online.
