The Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) has welcomed Emeritus Professor John Trinder as the institute’s new president.

Professor Tinder graduated a BSurv from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 1963, MSc from ITC in The Netherlands in 1965 and a PhD from UNSW in 1971. He has been employed by UNSW since 1965, was the Head of the School of Surveying and Geospatial Engineering from 1990-1999 and currently holds the position of Emeritus Professor.

Professor Trinder has undertaken teaching and research within the field of surveying for over 40 years, specialising in photogrammetry and remote sensing, and has published more than 170 scientific journals and conference proceedings.

Professor Trinder was the president of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) for the period of 2000-2004 and is currently an Honorary Member of ISPRS. He has served on the SSSI board since November 2011 and will be serving as the SSSI president for the term of 2013 to 2015.

“I am very excited to be leading the SSSI over the coming two years,” said Professor Trinder. “I would like to thank the former president Garry Maguire, who showed tremendous skill in overseeing over 200 SSSI seminars and workshops this year while building the organisation’s reputation locally and internationally.

“I am also looking forward to working with the new committee, to further represent the interests of surveying and spatial science professionals.”
