SSSI releases the 2012 Land Surveying Commission Conference program

By on 20 March, 2012

The National Land Surveying Commission Conference 2012 will be held at the Sebel, Albert Park, in Melbourne, from the 18th to the 21st April 2012.

This conference continues and expands upon the tradition of national Australian surveying conferences as previously organised by the Institution of Surveyors Australia.

The National Land Surveying Commission (NLSC) of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) – through links with the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors (NZIS) and the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) – will continue the involvement of Australian surveyors with international surveying events.

“The envisaged success of this conference has already earned the recognition and support of Land Victoria, Department of Sustainability and Environment, CR Kennedy, Trimble, RapidMap and Omni Star as major sponsors and contributors,” said John Minehan, chair of the SSSI National Land Surveying Commission.

The opening ceremony and plenary sessions will address key issues of the surveying profession including the latest developments in surveying technology, land administration and land tenure, geospatial information, and land affordability.

The technical program will include a broad professional and scientific program over two and a half days. National issues will be discussed that have increasing implications in the day-to-day practice of surveying.

A family friendly ‘accompanying persons program’ will include a river tour to Williamstown, tour of the MCG and the National Sports Museum, State Library Map Room Tour, as well as invitations to the conference social events.

The conference committee has been working tirelessly to bring a comprehensive and interesting program. John Minehan said that “the program is one of the best programs he has ever seen,” and that it “has been designed to encourage surveyors to think outside the square and expand on their knowledge.”
