The Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA) held its inaugural Tasmanian Regional Management Group (RMG) meeting last week, addressing issues including The List, Tasmanian Surveying Act, and the new government procurement panel.
The List currently houses a range of property and title related products.
The meeting was well attended by both current and potential members and was hosted in conjunction with Jacobs in Hobart. Paul Digney from Jacobs was appointed the Chair of the Tasmanian RMG and Justin Legg from Lester Franks was appointed Vice Chair.
“The meeting was extremely positive, and it was great to see spatial enthusiasts working together to create a results-driven spatial agenda for the Tasmanian RMG,” said Kellee Ireland, General Manager of SIBA. “Paul Digney, the newly appointed Chair of SIBA Tasmania and the RMG are keen to see the Tasmanian RMG become the key driver of the Tasmanian Spatial Industry.”
At the meeting, there was discussion around advocacy and how SIBA can contribute and influence the Tasmanian Government in regards to spatial information.
“It is time we had a good look at the List and the core datasets that support it,” said Paul Digney. “Industry needs to provide feedback and engagement in order for the Department to be able to provide relevant and consistent information.”
SIBA has made plans to schedule a meeting with the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment to consider the following issues:
- Is Tasmania is ready for a more contemporary Act such as a Spatial Information Act or Land Information act?, and;
- How can SIBA best support the other regions of Tasmania?
Further to this meeting, SIBA’s Tasmanian event networking calendar is rapidly filling up, with the following events already scheduled:
- HERE breakfast – 22 July 2014
- Tasmanian Spatial Excellence Awards – 18 August 2014
- Foundation Spatial Data Framework consultation at a date to be announced, and
- More regional events in late 2014.
The next SIBA Tasmania RMG meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday 1st July 2014. To register interest in attending, please contact Kellee Ireland at kireland@siba.com.au.
