The GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) has announced the launch of the PreGISP program, a new initiative designed to help emerging GIS professionals gain early industry recognition.

Launching this April, the PreGISP program will serve as a pathway for recent and soon-to-be graduates to transition from academic studies to professional practice.

As an official precursor to the CESB-accredited GISP certification, the PreGISP credential will provide early-career professionals with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and commitment to the GIS field.

To become an Emerging GIS Professional (GISP-E), candidates must pass the PreGISP exam and be a recent or upcoming graduate of an accredited academic institution.

Those who successfully earn the credential will receive the GISP-E designation, highlighting their dedication to professional growth.

“We’re excited to launch the PreGISP program and support aspiring GIS professionals as they begin their careers,” said Tony Spicci, Executive Director at GISCI.

“This credential serves as a bridge between academic learning and professional practice, equipping graduates with a competitive advantage as they enter the workforce.”

The first PreGISP testing window will take place from April 21–28, 2025, with exams proctored online. The registration deadline is April 7, 2025.

GISCI is a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing geospatial professionals through the internationally recognised GISP (Certified GIS Professional) certification.
