The international spatial information science community will gather in Fremantle from 22 to 25 October 2024 for the mid-term symposium of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Technical Commission IV: Spatial Information Science.

The ISPRS-TC IV symposium will provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to come together and share their work and ideas, discuss opportunities and challenges, exchange developments or software tools, and discuss future directions.

The theme of the symposium will be ‘Spatial information to empower the metaverse,’ and it will be held concurrently with the related Universal Positioning, Indoor Navigation and Location-Based Services (UPINLBS) and OSGeo FOSS4G Perth conferences.

The deadline for submission of papers and abstracts, 31 March, is coming up quickly. The symposium organisers are encouraging professionals who work in the field of spatial information science to consider proposing their work as soon as possible.

The ISPRS is a non-governmental organisation devoted to the development of international co-operation for the advancement of photogrammetry and remote sensing and their applications.

The mission of the ISPRS Technical Commission IV is to advance spatial information science, enable spatial digital twins and empower their development into a metaverse. This is being done by addressing challenges such as:

  • Multidimensional modelling
  • Fusion of data
  • Open data
  • Data management of big data
  • Spatial analysis and simulation
  • Mixed reality
  • Advanced interfaces

The Commission has a mandate of four years (2022–26). Its research and development work are conducted within 11 Working Groups and two Inter-Commission Working Groups, coordinated by 55 ISPRS officers and more than 100 members.

The Geospatial Council of Australia is the Australian member of ISPRS, with Australia’s Professor Sisi Zlatanova appointed Chair of ISPRS Technical Commission IV.
