The Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping (ICSM) has appointed the Surveyor-General of Victoria Craig Sandy as its new chairman.
Simon Costello has led ICSM for three and half years as the chairman. The ICSM thanked Mr Costello for his leadership and in particular, for completing the renewal of the National Collaborative Agreement and his focus on delivering the Foundation Spatial Data Framework.
Mr Sandy is a licensed land surveyor with almost 40 years’ experience in the surveying profession. He was previously the Surveyor-General for the Northern Territory of Australia. His focus is on the modernisation of land information systems and communicating the importance of the profession to the community.
ICSM is a standing committee of the ANZLIC – the Spatial Information Council. Together their role is to provide leadership in the collection, management and use of spatial information in Australia and New Zealand. ANZLIC and ICSM are collaborative groups with focus on delivering better outcomes for communities.
“My role as chairman is to lead the ICSM team as we tackle the challenge of delivering Australia’s spatial information through digital platforms to support our community in progressing towards a digital economy.
“A key focus will be communicating the work we do and the value of it to our stakeholders and the broader Australian and New Zealand communities,” Mr Sandy said.
