McMullen Nolan Group founders announce retirements

By on 24 September, 2012

McMullen Nolan Group company founders, John McMullen and Gerry Nolan, have announced their retirements from the company that they founded 23 years ago.

John and Gerry formed McMullen Nolan and Partners Surveyors Pty Ltd in 1989 after recognising a niche in the market to innovate surveying services. Through their dedication and the appointment of talented people, the company has grown to become one of Australia’s largest surveying and spatial information firms.

McMullen Nolan Group Pty Ltd, as it is known today, has core business activities focussed upon the provision of survey services to larger scale broad acre subdivision clients and resources and infrastructure businesses.

Gerry said both John and he had undertaken a succession plan over the past five years in preparation for the day they both would retire. “We wanted to provide opportunity for our highly qualified and talented staff to develop both personally and professionally. With our retirement on the agenda this was a way we could recognise our staff contribution to our vision and growth over the last 23 years,” Gerry said.

John said McMullen Nolan Group’s succession goals had come to fruition with the appointment of Scott Anderson to Chief Executive Officer in June 2012. “Scott has a tremendous ability to lead and motivate, and the company has some of the most astute, innovative, analytical and diverse minds within the global surveying industry,” John said.

“Gerry and I are thrilled with how seamless the staff’s transition has been into the new structure. With Scott leading the way, we are confident the new management team will forge ahead and capture the growth opportunities that exist.” Scott is well supported by the Board of Directors and the newly appointed Executive Management Team:
Stuart Torode – Director of Land Development Mark Mariotti – Director of Resources & Infrastructure
Steve Maughan – Director of Shared Services John Nolan – Manager of Laser Scanning

Both John and Gerry will remain on the board as non-executive directors and as consultants on specialised projects. John will remain as Chairman of the Board.

Scott said the legacy John and Gerry will leave the surveying industry in Western Australia would be hard to beat.

“They have both been at the forefront of innovation, improved business and have supported new talent within the Western Australian surveying industry for nearly three decades, which is a fantastic achievement. They can enjoy their retirements knowing they have built one of the most diverse, innovative, well-resourced and respected survey and spatial information companies within Australia from the ground up,” Scott said.

“The team at McMullen Nolan Group is committed to continuing to build the company in accordance with the values John and Gerry set for the business. This is a challenge our staff is embracing and looking forward to.

“I am very much looking forward to continuing to work with them at board level and I can speak for everyone at the company they started when I wish them well in their retirements.”
