Samuel Thompson, a fourth-year student at Otago University studying a Bachelor of Surveying with honours, has been awarded the Kairūri Community Trust Stirling Scholarship for 2023.

The scholarship included a NZ$2,500 cash prize plus support to attend the Annual Survey and Spatial NZ conference, which was held in Dunedin a few weeks ago.

At the conference Sam had the opportunity to share his submission titled ‘The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Surveying and Spatial Industry’.

The Stirling Scholarship has been made possible by the Stirling family through a generous donation from the Ian and Margaret Stirling Fund in 2021.

The Fund provides scholarships and grants to support individuals seeking careers or further education in the surveying and spatial sectors, especially those who have financial or other barriers to pursuing tertiary education.
