Green light: first round of DEA Labs funding open

By on 3 April, 2019

Funding for three projects of up to $50,000 each is available for projects demonstrating new products and services with Digital Earth Australia data and infrastructure.

Expressions of Interest are open for the first round of funding for the DEA Labs program, with FrontierSI and Geoscience Australia seeking parties to create demonstrator projects.

DEA Labs is a core component of the industry strategy for Digital Earth Australia launched last month, which aims to demonstrate the value of earth observation-derived data products and services to industry.

FrontierSi said that DEA Labs will help Australian businesses to use satellite data and DEA technologies to solve real world problems through collaboration, the provision of funding and support. It will bring together end users and the private sector to innovate and solve challenging real world problems, while helping the DEA Program better align its areas of focus, gather data on impact and closely monitor and measure success.

Phil Delaney, Chief Innovation and Delivery Officer at FrontierSI says “The DEA Labs program is a great opportunity to accelerate the adoption of the Digital Earth Australia data and technology, and will be a great model for private industry working hand in hand with GA to create useful products and services for their customers.”

“We expect companies from the spatial sector to bring some new ideas and their great experience to the table, but also hope to uncover some new types of companies who would like to better utilise Earth Observations in their businesses.”

The funding program is open to entities of any size and maturity, with IP developed under the program to be retained by funding recipients. Expressions of Interest are open now.
