Adelaide’s Aerometrex has completed a considerable multi-ray photogrammetry project in the south of France, producing a finely detailed 3D model of the historic city of Pau.
The completed model has recently been revealed to the public, after Aerometrex and in-country partner IGO SAS began the project in June 2019.
According to the company, the end result comprises over 100,000 images captured by foot, helicopter and drone geometrically reconstructed into a model with a resolution approaching a pixel size of a few millimetres.
Marc Serraf, Director of AEC Informatique, the company in charge of project management assistance, said that the sophistication of this project was significant.
“The combination of very high resolution shots and the surface treatment make it a first on a European scale,” he said.
Serraf highlighted a number of use cases for the model, including town planning, economic, risk management, urban logistics and heritage documentation applications.
Mark Deuter, Aerometrex’s managing director, said that the project served as a benchmark for the company’s 3D modelling capability.
“This project illustrates the global reach of our 3D modelling service as well as the degree of 3D technical excellence that now exists in the company. The 3D model of the City of Pau has set a standard that will attract the attention of every other municipality in Europe,” he said.
“We intend to capitalise on this exposure by working closely with our sales channel partners in Europe and the USA in 2020.”
