The upcoming FOSS4G State of the Map Oceania conference has released its draft schedule of presentations and technical workshops, and it’s a diverse, heavyweight affair.
The event is a regional symposium for the open geospatial software community, taking place on November 20-23 in Melbourne. The four day event features a full day of workshops, a two-day conference, a community day and social events.
The workshop program is not for the tech-shy, with fourteen discrete 3.5 hour sessions being offered over the course of the day, covering everything from developing full-stack applications on AWS with open technologies, to open source point cloud processing and model creation.
The confirmed presentations form a similarly formidable schedule, covering a massive body of topics across nine streams, covering data, FOSS4G adoption, new technology, data publishing and portals, remote sensing, state of the map, the_geom, tiles, visualisation and web mapping.
A sample of some of the full-length presentations includes tantalising topic areas: calculating notional margins for electoral redistributions, health resource mapping in the Asia-Pacific, adopting QGIS in a corporate environment, next-generation point cloud processing with DotLoom, UAV change detection with FME and QGIS, dealing with the antimeridian — and much more.
Following the conference is community day, featuring a code sprint and ‘mapathon’ for developers to work on projects of interest in concert, as well as for members of the broader community to contribute.
