Event: GeoNext Forum

By on 11 October, 2011

GeoNext is a new forum that addresses the gap between industry and vendor geo events. It aims to connect all traditional users of geo and ‘mash them up’ with emerging ‘neo-geo’ users and communities to inspire, collaborate and redefine what it means to be a geo professional.

Imagine seeing geo users from mobile, location based gaming, augmented reality, and mobile payments mixing it up with open source and vendor GIS users, geo-science practitioners, geographers and cartographers.
The possibilities are amazing and there will doubtless be light globes lighting up all over the conference venue.
If you’re excited by the possibilities and new opportunities in geo then this conference is for you.

The main topics include:
Free and Open Source GIS, including how to get started, pros and cons, and success stories;
Mobile, including how to get started in mobile spatial development, tips and tricks, which API to pick, native vs web applications, success stories;
Augmented Reality (AR), including if it’s useful or a gimmick, how it can be used in location applications, success stories;
Monetising Location, including what relevance does location have in (m)commerce?, are location based services such as Foursquare successful? How will they evolve?, what is the future of NFC and commerce?, the significance of purchase history and your location and using your phone to pay;
GIS and Design, including why we need to involve experienced UI and UX designers, how to get started, tips and tricks, success stories, using GeoAnalytics to solve real world problems.

GeoNext will run on the 29 February 2012 at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney.
More information is available on the GeoNext Website, Twitter account and Facebook page.

SpatialSource and Position Magazine are official media partners for the GeoNext Forum.
