Digital Earth Australia workshop series kicks off

By on 10 October, 2018

Private entities are invited to join a series of consultative workshops on how best to leverage Earth observation data through the Digital Earth Australia (DEA) portal.

Geoscience Australia and FrontierSI are seeking to shape the future DEA with this national series, kicking off nationally in October, which will help set priorities for DEA’s full $36.9 million funding over the next four years, announced in the 2018 federal budget.

The second core objective is to ensure that participants understand and can harness the power of DEA’s currently available features and services — how to extract insight from the petabytes of data unshackled from the government’s satellite data archives, fused with new data from a rapidly expanding range of new satellite sources.

These objectives inform the program and workshop format, split into two sections:

Co-Designing DEA

  • Introduction: DEA today
  • Validating industry needs and requirements
  • Designing DEA’s future (Growth opportunities, Incubation programs)

Experience DEA

  • View, Access and Analyse data in DEA
  • Analysing data in DEA: hands on guided exploration the platform

The workshops are exclusively aimed at private companies, with places available for two representatives per organisation. The first event in the series is Brisbane on October 22, with events in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide to follow.
