After too long an absence, we’re delighted to announce that GeoRabble Sydney will be back, on Thursday October 18th, from 6PM at the Occidental Hotel in York Street.

Theme of this Rabble is “The Unusual Suspects” – celebrating the unusual, unsuspected, and surprising applications of geoinformation and -technology. Think using GPS for herding cattle, new uses of drones, photogrammetry in health, GIS on Mars, mapping in insurance and finance, to name just a few.
We are looking for speakers who have an ‘unusual suspect’ story to tell, in under 10 minutes. Do you have a story to tell about a left-field application, please let us know via email: sydney@georabble.org.

Survey and Spatial NZ’s 2022 conference will be held from 1 to 3 August at the Novotel Lakeside, Rotorua. The conference is the biggest continuing professional development event of the year for NZ surveying and spatial professionals. It invites sharing of knowledge amongst peers, bringing together networking opportunities for all delegates and is an essential event for professional development and connectivity within the sector.
The choice of Rotorua as the location is apt, given the conference theme of ‘Turning up the Heat’. The organisers aim to stimulate discussion regarding challenges in regional areas, which include climate change and developments outside of Auckland.
Smart Cities Week Australia and New Zealand 2022 will bring together the who’s-who in smart cities, digital twins and future-of-place thought leadership in an energising, open dialogue on how to leverage technology to deliver better quality of life for citizens.
Smart Cities Week offers sessions designed to bring demand and supply side stakeholders together in a way that incubates business opportunities and incubates the smart cities investment pipeline.
This year, the event will be delivered in conjunction with Digital Twin Week, known as the premier platform for showcasing, exchanging and networking around all things Digital Twin in the built and natural environment. The event will offer a series of opportunities to connect and gain information and insights on Digital Twin activity, policy and practice from government and industry leaders.

RPAS in Australia Skies is back for 2023. The conference is the Australian Association for Uncrewed Systems’ (AAUS) main event for the year and has established itself as a landmark event for the Australian drone industry, drawing interest from key government personnel, representatives from the regulatory and safety bodies, defence force, RPAS and UTM representatives, end users and academia.
The hybrid event will take place over two days and will include a combination of presentations and interactive panel discussions.
The conference will cover:
- RPAS related policy and regulatory updates from Australian and international government agencies.
- UAS Traffic Management, low-level airspace and integrated airspace systems
- Industry challenges and perspectives
- Continuing development of a professional and safe industry.
- Emerging technologies and innovative solutions enabling RPAS integration in Australian airspace.
- Emerging applications — benefits, viability and social acceptance
- Case studies of drone use and challenges in emergency services, infrastructure inspection, delivery, mining, and agriculture.
The 2023 ACT Geospatial Conference and Excellence Awards will bring together colleagues old and new to hear the latest updates from across the local geospatial industry.
The call for abstracts for the event is now open. Any topic of interest to the geospatial industry is welcome, including surveying (cadastral, engineering, hydrographic, mining), GIS, remote sensing and geodesy, or broader topics such as new technology, diversity and workforce management.
The deadline for submission of abstract proposals closes at midday on Tuesday, 3 October.
The Geospatial Excellence Awards Reception will be held at the conclusion of the conference sessions, giving attendees the chance to enjoy drinks and canapes whilst networking and celebrating the award winners.
