First up is Dale Atkinson, presenting Native Title and the role of Cadastral Surveyor.

There have been over 120 Native Title Determinations registered in Queensland alone. Complicated legal concepts, lengthy federal court judgements and cultural sensitivities have made this a very avoidable issue for the cadastral surveyor. This talk attempts to provide a basic understanding and argues that there is a vital role for cadastral surveyors to play in this process.

Dale is a cadastral surveyor that runs a small rural based practice in North Queensland. He has a keen interest in rural surveying and maintains a good relationship with many retired rural surveyors. Dale is currently the Chair of the Qld Land Surveying Commission Committee.

The 42nd Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing will be a virtual event that will bring together academics, practitioners, vendors and policymakers from the remote sensing community in an informative and productive four-day event under the theme of Understanding Our World: Remote Sensing For A Sustainable Future. It fill have special sessions, general sessions, keynotes, panel discussions and workshops featuring speakers from around the world. Attendees will enjoy both technical sessions and networking opportunities online.

During GEO Week 2021, the Group on Earth Observations will present the multidisciplinary activities of the GEO Work Programme that address policy agendas involved in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP26, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP15, the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration.

The online event will include the GEO-17 plenary, plus anchor and side events. Time will be scheduled each day for virtual networking. On Monday, November 22, the 56th Executive Committee will be held as a closed meeting.

Of particular importance will be the anchor events: These are the main events designed by GEO week 2021 organisers to explain the multidisciplinary nature of GEO through the concept of nexus thinking. Working on multiple topics simultaneously is essential in today’s rapidly changing environmental and social conditions. For example, work in one area will have a knock-on effect or impact in another area, such as the water, energy and food nexus. These events are linked to the global policy agendas that underpin most of GEO’s work.

The US National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) Annual Conference is the place to enhance geospatial excellence and collaboration for state, local, tribal and federal GIS policymakers and coordinators, private sector partners and other leaders in the geospatial ecosystem.

Providing critical and timely networking opportunities, the conference also offers the chance to connect, collaborate, and share with colleagues and partners.

Smart Cities Week Australia and New Zealand 2022 will bring together the who’s-who in smart cities, digital twins and future-of-place thought leadership in an energising, open dialogue on how to leverage technology to deliver better quality of life for citizens.

Smart Cities Week offers sessions designed to bring demand and supply side stakeholders together in a way that incubates business opportunities and incubates the smart cities investment pipeline.

This year, the event will be delivered in conjunction with Digital Twin Week, known as the premier platform for showcasing, exchanging and networking around all things Digital Twin in the built and natural environment. The 2022 SSSI Queensland Regional Conference will be held on Friday, 14 October at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. It promises to once again be a fantastic opportunity to learn and connect with SSSI members and the broader surveying and spatial community.

The Queensland Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards dinner will also be held in conjunction with the conference, celebrating the outstanding work being undertaken across the region.

The International Cartographic Association (ICA) invites you to share your research, practice and experiences in cartography and GIScience at the 31^st International Cartographic Conference (ICC 2023), to be held from 13 to 18 August 2023 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The conference theme will be ‘Smart Cartography for Sustainable Development’.

The Geospatial Council of Australia’s 2023 North Queensland Conference will be held at the Cairns Colonial Club on 28 August 2023.

This annual conference is an opportunity for local surveying professionals at all levels to get together to hear about local projects, connect with colleagues old and new and see the latest equipment from suppliers.

The 2023 Queensland Geospatial Conference & Awards Dinner will be held in Brisbane on Friday, 20 October 2023.

The conference will be a chance for the Queensland geospatial community to learn about the latest projects and research, connect with colleagues and see the latest technology from local suppliers. The conference will be followed by the awards dinner.

Presentation abstract proposals are being accepted until Monday, 28 August.
