Held on Sunday, 9th February, 2020, the SSSI National Bushfire Recovery Map-a-thon was a way for the national and international community to work together to map a total of 2,793,879 hectares affected by recent Australian bushfires with the focus being on burnt infrastructure. Speakers:
Dr Lesley Arnold (SSSI National Board Director) will give an overview of the Map-a-thon initiative and discuss overall logistics of planning; industry, government and NGO engagement; the challenges and overall execution of the event.
Nathan Eaton, Executive Director, NGIS Australia will give an overview of the technical set-up of this mammoth Map-a-thon and highlight some of the challenges and triumphs experienced.
This is a free event open to those who participated in the Map-a-thon or are involved in the surveying and spatial community.

FIRA is a leading global event series, which this year is focused on the new era of robotics in agriculture and the huge impact it will have on the whole value chain. Survey and Spatial NZ’s 2022 conference will be held from 1 to 3 August at the Novotel Lakeside, Rotorua. The conference is the biggest continuing professional development event of the year for NZ surveying and spatial professionals. It invites sharing of knowledge amongst peers, bringing together networking opportunities for all delegates and is an essential event for professional development and connectivity within the sector.
The choice of Rotorua as the location is apt, given the conference theme of ‘Turning up the Heat’. The organisers aim to stimulate discussion regarding challenges in regional areas, which include climate change and developments outside of Auckland.
The Institute of Navigation’s (ION) mid-year meeting, the International Technical Meeting (ITM), is a conference with a technical program related to positioning, navigation and timing and includes the ION Fellows and Annual Awards presentations.
In 2024, ITM will take place in Long Beach, California, January 22 – 25, 2024, and will be co-located with the Precise Time and Time Interval Systems and Applications Meeting.
A commercial exhibition and pre-conference tutorials will be held in conjunction with the conference.
The Institute of Navigation’s (ION) annual Precise Time and Time Interval Systems and Applications (PTTI) meeting will take place in Long Beach, California, January 22-25, 2024, and will be co-located with the ION International Technical Meeting.
The PTTI technical program is designed to:
- Disseminate and coordinate PTTI information at the user level
- Review present and future PTTI requirements
- Inform government and industry engineers, technicians, and managers of precise time and frequency technology and its problems, and
- Provide an opportunity for an active exchange of new technology associated with PTTI.
