As the investment centre of gravity related to space shifts towards leading economies in the Indo-Pacific, we must think together about shared opportunities, challenges and risks around the ‘Zone Above’.
In collaboration with The University of Western Australia (UWA), the Perth USAsia Centre is convening the 2018 In The Zone Conference, the latest in a series founded to provide a strategic forum for Indo-Pacific policymakers, advocates, business and academic leaders to grapple with issues of shared regional concern. This year’s In the Zone will focus on capability, security and expansion into space and is titled The Zone Above: The Indo-Pacific Era in Space.
Please note a tax invoice will be emailed to attendees in the month prior.

SDB Day 2019
The International Forum on Satellite-Derived Bathymetry 2019
Esteemed speakers and guests from hydrographic offices, marine industry, service providers and research institutes around the world will gather for Australia’s first SDB Day in May 2019.
Satellite Derived Bathymetry (SDB) is a method for providing high-resolution water depth data in shallow water environments. These waters are notoriously difficult and expensive to access. The method combines satellite imagery with advanced algorithms to provide affordable and accurate data, and all within a relatively quick turnaround time.
The forum addresses the urgent need for both users and producers of SDB to jointly discuss capabilities, standards, data integration and handling uncertainties in its application.
Are you a young surveyor and always wondered what the digital frontier of the profession looked like? Are you mid career but developed foundation skills but have not yet ventured into the digital data part of the discipline? Are you a seasoned professional who loves to see what amazing things you can do with the tools and technologies of the 21st century?
If you answered yes to any of those questions then this is a webinar you won’t want to miss!
Michael Finlay is a Geospatial Engineer who specialises in 3D laser scanning and point cloud technologies. He is an early career professional who has been working at Jacobs for 8 years and is passionate about all things 3D laser scanning, especially mobile laser scanning (MLS). Michael is a trail blazer in developing the digital data team and discipline at Jacobs as not only a real value add, efficiency but product and service enricher for the surveying team. The National Surveying Congress will be an opportunity for leaders in the surveying profession to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the profession. The 2022 Congress theme is ‘Automatic Mutual Relaxation’.
As the profession comes to understand the impact of Automatic Mutual Recognition for surveyors across the country, the event will provide an opportunity for surveyors from across Australia to gather and discuss the issues facing the profession and the opportunities for the future. The highlight of the program each year is the Cadastral Leaders Panel which sees all the Surveyors-General on stage speaking about changes and opportunities in their states and territories as well as an update from ICSM and ANZLIC. There will also be an online option.
The National Surveying Consultancy Excellence Awards and Gala Dinner will be held on the second day of the event, 23 June 2022.
The Tasmanian Spatial Information Council (TASSIC) will hold a Geospatial Workforce Development Forum on 9 November 2023, to help shape the future of the geospatial sector in Tasmania.
The Forum will bring together key stakeholders from education, employers, government and suppliers to address critical challenges and opportunities facing the sector.
The Forum will include presentations from representatives of industry, government and the education sector, as follows:
- Paul Digney (Jacobs)
- Rob Rowell (Insight GIS)
- Ben Morris (Local Government Association of Tasmania)
- Michael Krome (Australian Spatial Analytics)
- Arco Lucieer (University of Tasmania)
- Sam Ebert (TAFE NSW)
- Troy Robbins (TasTAFE)
The event will conclude with a moderated discussion session led by Danika Bakalich (Geospatial Council of Australia).
The Forum will be a hybrid event with both in-person and online attendance options available, and it will employ the Menti-Meter program to facilitate discussions, ensuring that each delegate’s voice is heard and their input valued.
