The recipients of this year’s Queensland Excellence in Surveying & Spatial Information (EISSI) Awards have been announced.
The 2026 Queensland EISSI awards were presented at a gala occasion held at the Sofitel Brisbane Central hotel on Saturday, 12 September.
The event saw leading lights from the state’s surveying and spatial sciences community gather for a night of celebrations.
Also in attendance was Steve Minnikin MP, Minister for Customer Services and Open Data and Minister for Small and Family Business, who gave an address and helped present the Professional Organisation of the Year and Sir Augustus Gregory Awards.
Natalie Marr MP, Member for Thuringowa, also attended and presented the Community & Sustainable Environment Award.
The following is the list of award recipients and their projects or accomplishments:

- Surveying Project Management: Bennett + Bennett, The Wave, Stage 1 & 2 (Direct Sunshine Coast Rail Line), Beerwah to Birtinya
- University Student Project of the Year: Yvette van de Kaa, Predictive Water Quality Framework, The University of New England
- Young Professional Surveyor of the Year: Matthew Copley
- Professional Surveyor of the Year: Dale Atkinson
- Professional Organisation of the Year: Bennett + Bennett
- Highly Commended – Extra Dimension & Innovation: Kadastre, for Plan Digitisation
- Highly Commended – Young Professional Surveyor of the Year: Andrew Manning
Celebrating the profession in Queensland
“Queensland continues to deliver outstanding people, projects and organisations, and the EISSI Awards provide an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate that excellence,” said Surveyors Australia’s CEO, Michelle Blicavs.
“NorthGroup Consulting’s achievement in taking home the Sir Augustus Gregory Award is a tremendous recognition of the innovation, technical expertise and determination behind the Somerset Dam project.
“Bennett + Bennett also had an exceptional evening, with four awards recognising the breadth of its project work as well as the strength of the organisation itself,” she added.
“And importantly, these Awards also celebrate the people behind our profession. Congratulations to Matthew Copley, Dale Atkinson, Yvette van de Kaa and all of this year’s winners and highly commended recipients.”
All the Queensland award recipients will be automatically entered into the National EISSI Awards, to be presented in Canberra in February 2027.
The Queensland EISSI Awards are part of the expanding national EISSI program, which began in New South Wales nearly 30 years ago and now covers surveying and spatial excellence across Australia.
