Gilmour Space Technologies has received regulatory approval from CASA to test launch its nine-metre One Vision rocket from a site in Queensland.

Speaking at the initial announcement of the rocket, CEO and founder, Adam Gilmour said the launch would test Gilmour’s proprietary propulsion technology, mobile launch platform and control station.

“One Vision is a scaled version of our Ariel sounding rocket, and its main objective will be to flight-test our proprietary hybrid rocket engine for commercial orbital launches starting in 2020,” he said.

Since then, the company has been cleared by CASA to go ahead with the launch, and a Queensland parliamentary enquiry[PDF] strongly recommended that the government support local launch activities and infrastructure development.

The company plans to launch One Vision, with payloads from universities in Australia and Singapore, from a private property in far north Queensland in May.
