Position magazine #96 out now

By on 22 August, 2018

The August/September issue of Position magazine is out now. Issue #96 re-examines core principles of openness in spatial disciplines for 2018, and how we might leverage some of these freely available technologies and standards to remain agile and competitive in an incredibly dynamic period.

We clamber into the cockpit to get hands-on with a Remote Pilot’s Licence (RePL) certification course, and take a detailed look at the dark horse of satellite sensing technologies, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), with Ralf Duering.

Cam Shorter of the Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) conference and OSGeo board contributes a refresher on the core principles of open approaches, while Open Data Institute (ODI) Australia CEO Jamie Leach provides an insider’s account of a a collaboration between Planet Labs, the Queensland government and ODI.

Rounding out an open trifecta, we take a detailed look at how Australia’s terrestrial ecosystem observatory, TERN, is helping to calibrate and validate biogeophysical satellite data products for NASA and the ESA, courtesy of Mark Grant.
