Fleet to launch first two nanosatellites in 2018

Adelaide-based space startup Fleet Space Technologies will launch two of its satellites into orbit this year, one of them aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle.

The first of Fleet’s two satellites, Centauri I, will launch aboard Spaceflight’s Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), operated by Antrix/ISRO.

The second, Centari II, will also be launched on a Spaceflight mission, among a collection of small satellites to be launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 in the second half of 2018.

“It’s a huge milestone to have secured our first satellite launches with incredible organisations. We’re thrilled to work alongside some of the world’s leading space innovators to help transform industries down on Earth,” said Fleet Space Technologies co-founder and CEO, Flavia Tata Nardini.

These launches will be the first of a constellation that will provide global coverage for a scalable network that will provide connectivity to the billions of IoT (Internet of Things) devices expected to come online in the coming years.

Fleet also recently launched Portal, an IoT hub that uses edge computing technology to take sensor data from within a 15-kilometre radius and deliver only pertinent information to stakeholders, which Fleet says will allow small businesses to scale their IoT capability quickly and affordably.

Curt Blake, President of Spaceflight welcomed the association.

“We’re seeing some very ambitious and innovative space startups born in Australia, and Fleet Space Technologies is no exception. We’re looking forward to helping them reach the skies and advance the next generation of space exploration,” he said.
