12d Synergy unveiled early for Christchurch

Christchurch’s rebuild is the working test-bed for a new system from leading civil and surveying software 12d.
The system – 12d Synergy – is being rolled out ahead of schedule to allow collaboration across the many people using 12d Model for Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT) projects.
12d Synergy was set to be unveiled during the 12d Model International User Conference in July.
However, it was decided to release 12d Synergy early for SCIRT’s rebuild design teams, who chose 12d Model civil software as it provides the best integrated package for surveying, preliminary and detailed design and construction.
And the addition of 12d Synergy will now allow the SCIRT teams to keep track of their data and files for the $2.5 billion project.
“We had received numerous requests from users for a system that provides a single point of reference for all their 12d Model projects, project documentation, CAD files and plots – and at a reasonable cost,” 12d Solutions Managing Director Dr Lee Gregory said.
“12d Synergy was developed in response to those requests.  The 12d Synergy system manages who has access to what data, keeps a complete audit trail of all the documents, automatically manages and tracks referenced DWG and Xref files and Excel speadsheets (no more worrying about renamed or even moved files), integrates with popular tools such as Microsoft Office, and, of course, integrates with 12d Model.
“12d Synergy adds an umbrella to coordinate and control the collaborative efforts of all the team members. The system saves time and money for an office by controlling access to the engineering data, and creating automatic workflows to implement business processes — all within one suite of tools.”
The SCIRT project includes an estimated $2.5 billion worth of replacements and repairs to more than 200km of roads and 800km of water pipes, as well as a large number of water reservoirs, bridges and public parks.
The project is being carried out by SCIRT, an alliance between Christchurch City Council, Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA), New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), City Care, Downer, Fletcher Construction, Fulton Hogan, and the MacDow Fletcher Joint Venture. It will also see major involvement from Beca, GHD, Opus, Sinclair Knight Merz and URS.
“12d Model is being used as the civil engineering database and for all the civil engineering functions including the surveying, drainage and sewer design and road design,” Dr Gregory said.
Seeing the innovative approaches already being proposed for SCIRT prompted 12d Model to launch the 12d International Innovation Awards, which will honour acknowledge clever and inventive solutions and projects by 12d Model users around the world. The winners of the Awards – with a prize pool of $15,000 – will be announced at the 12d Model International User Conference in July.
