The Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UK-based Association for Geographic Information (AGI).

The agreement will see both bodies cooperate on initiatives to develop the capacity of spatial professionals across Australia, the United Kingdom and globally, with a focus on promoting the use of geospatial information to achieve the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“It’s great to see this international partnership come together. The MoU provides a framework for both organisations to collaborate on initiatives that benefit our geospatial community as a whole, and provides all our members with increased opportunities for knowledge sharing and professional development,” said Denise McKenzie, chair of council for AGI-UK.

Dr. Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse FSSSI FRGS, president of SSSI, also welcomed the news.

“This MoU seeks to strengthen industry collaboration and support both SSSI and AGI’s vision to proactively advance an innovative and successful geospatial industry. The members of both organisations will benefit from knowledge exchange through joint activities including initiatives on career development. I see this collaboration as unique and will strengthen both organisations’ goal of developing a global Sustainable Geospatial Capacity Building Agenda,” he said.
