Get Kids into Survey and Hasbro have developed a surveying themed version of the classic board game, MONOPOLY.
MONOPOLY: Surveying Edition has been launched with the aim of cleverly educating kids and their parents about the importance of the geospatial sector in everyday life… and, hopefully, inspire some of those kids to consider a career in the sector.
“Get Kids into Survey has always been about finding creative ways to make surveying visible to the next generation,” said the organisation’s founder, Elaine Ball.
“We want children to understand that the places they live, the roads they travel on, the buildings they walk past, the rivers they cross, the coastlines they visit and even the technology they use are all connected to geospatial professionals in ways they might never have realised.”
MONOPOLY: Surveying Edition is the result of many months of planning involving dozens of organisations from across the sector.
Through play rather than didactic learning, children are exposed to the geospatial concepts and technologies evident all around us — from drones to GNSS, laser scanning to digital twins, AI and underwater surveying, and more.

According to Ball, the project is one of Get Kids into Survey’s most ambitious attempts to take surveying awareness beyond the industry and into the family home itself.
“MONOPOLY: Surveying Edition gives us another way to start those conversations,” she said.
“Children might begin by simply playing a game with their family, but somewhere along the way they could discover a piece of technology, a type of surveyor or a project they have never seen before.
“That first spark of curiosity could be the moment they begin to see the world around them differently, and realise surveying helps shape, measure and protect it.”
Pre-orders for MONOPOLY: Surveying Edition are now being taken, with initial shipment due in December.
