Perth-based aerial imagery startup Spookfish has selected NEXTDC Limited to scale up its operations with processing infrastructure and cloud services hosted across Australia.

The Spookfish Capture Platform provides comprehensive acquisition of aerial imagery using multiple sensors placed at various angles, making 3D, high resolution modelling more accessible than every before. Since a backdoor listing onto the ASX in 2015 and a partnership to provide imagery in the United States alongside EaglesView Technologies, excitement has been building as to when Spookfish will roll out its unique approach to market.

The NEXTDC partnership seeks to provide Spookfish with a national footprint to meet its long term growth needs for scalability, reliability and flexibility. With multiple data centre facilities across Australia, NEXTDC will provide faster post-flight data processing and access options for clients. To begin, all infrastructure will be installed and operational at NEXTDC’s P1 Perth data centre within weeks.

Spookfish Executive Chairman, Jason Marinko, said the agreement with NEXTDC was an important stepping stone for Spookfish to launch operations in Australia.

“Our agreement with NEXTDC will enable Spookfish to optimise data processing costs and rapidly scale up to meet our significant data processing requirements given the leading edge aerial imaging technology we have developed,” Marinko said.

“As Australia’s largest independent data centre operator with a strategic national footprint, NEXTDC is best placed to host our infrastructure and importantly provide the necessary flexibility to meet our longer term requirements.

“We expect our IT infrastructure to be installed and operational within weeks to allow us to begin addressing the pent up market demand for our services.”

NEXTDC CEO, Craig Scroggie, said, “We are very excited to welcome Spookfish to the NEXTDC ecosystem as a group on the forefront of global innovation in the GIS sector.

“Spookfish’s exciting growth strategy and hybrid cloud solution is ideally suited to NEXTDC’s flexible and scalable data centre services.”
