Precision Hydrographic Services (PHS) wins its second tender under the HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP).

The South Australian hydrography firm has won the tender for the SI 1012 – Backstairs Passage project, which will see bathymetric scanning and charting of the body of water between Cape Jervis and Kangaroo Island, providing access to vessels from the east to St Vincent and Spencer Gulfs.

PHS will carry out a multibeam bathymetric survey to update charted bathymetry, to facilitate safe navigation, and to provide confirmation of known and identification of new navigation hazards which could pose a threat to safe navigation.

Offshore Unlimited are providing the main survey vessel for the project, enabling 24 hour survey operations over an estimated 75 days from departure to arrival of home port.

South Australian company Alexandrina Marine Services will provide a vessel for survey of shallow areas and operate out of Penneshaw Kangaroo Island, according to PHS.

PHS was previously awarded the tender to conduct a bathymetric survey of the Darwin, Beagle Gulf project under the HIPP, completed in June 2020.
