Plan to drive industry uptake of satellite data

By on 21 March, 2019

A strategy plan launched this week by Geoscience Australia and FrontierSI aims to pinpoint areas for investment in the Digital Earth Australia program that will maximise benefits for industry.

The strategy aims to raise the profile of the Digital Earth Australia program by engaging deeply with the private sector to actively demonstrate the concrete value proposition of effectively leveraging satellite data.

With the aim of identifying the most effective use of the government’s funding commitment of $13 million per year, the partnered organisations consulted with over 500 stakeholders in developing the strategy, which launched on Tuesday.

Eva Rodriguez of FrontierSI said that a key plank in the strategy is the inception of DEA Labs, a targeted incubator program to assist Australian businesses to harness satellite data.

“DEA Labs will be allow industry and end users to bring to the table the hard, complex problems they are currently facing. The program will provide them with the right level of support to come up with solutions through the use of DEA technology and EO data,” she said.

“It is a very exciting opportunity, and FrontierSI are looking forward to working with GA to trial the Labs concept over the coming months!”
