The work of the NSW Office of the Registrar General (ORG) on eConveyancing reform has been recognised by being listed as a finalist in the NSW Premier’s Awards.
The award recognises the work of the ORG along with Revenue NSW, the Australian Registrars’ National Electronic Conveyancing Council, the Australian Banking Association, the Australian Institute of Conveyancers, the Law Society and the Law Council of Australia.
In October 2021, NSW moved entirely to eConveyancing, ending more than 150 years of paper in the conveyancing industry by building a world-first legislative framework and a new national online platform, co-funded with the private sector.
The team worked with lawyers, conveyancers and financial institutions to transform their business practices from paper to a fully digital system, leading to other private operators entering the eConveyancing market.
The ORG led national reform by working with stakeholders across the private and public sectors to pass legislation requiring operators to interoperate their back-end systems, leading to more competition and more choice for customers.
The winners of the Premier’s Awards will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday, 29 November 2022.
