Nominations are open for the 2026 Sol Katz Award for Geospatial Free and Open Source Software.

The award recognises the late Solomon ‘Sol’ Katz, a pioneer of the free and open-source software for geospatial (FOSS4G) community who forged a large legacy while working at the US Bureau of Land Management.

The award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated leadership in the FOSS4G community by contributing significantly to the advancement of open-source ideals in the geospatial sector.

Nominations should be sent to solkatzaward@lists.osgeo.org with a supporting description of the individual’s work. Nominations will be accepted until the end of the day, 10 July, ‘anywhere on Earth’.

The successful recipient of the 2026 award will be chosen by the OSGeo selection committee and announced online during the FOSS4G 2026 event in Hiroshima, Japan.
