Episode one of the new Directions with Stan Grant podcast features GIS exponent and former Governor of Maryland, Martin O’Malley.
Taking the form of a ‘fireside chat,’ the podcast sees O’Malley and Grant discuss how technology, GIS data and science can be used to improve government practices and achieve measurable results.
O’Malley, who also served as Mayor of Baltimore, is widely respected for using GIS technology to help manage the challenges faced by his state and city.
The podcast explores his leadership style and philosophies.
According to O’Malley, a leader should “create a default setting to openness and transparency, a cadence of collaboration and accountability based on the latest emerging truth”.
“Whether it’s the health of your rivers and streams, job creation, carbon reduction — show that truth to every citizen in your state in the same real-time way with simple dashboards and visual tools.”
Future episodes will see Grant interviewing other leaders on topics ranging from solving crime to dealing with climate change.
